Partnering with University of Southern Indiana, Heart to Heart Hospice Foundation helps impact the future of end-of-life care and community health.
As part of its commitment to educating healthcare professionals and serving communities, the Heart to Heart Hospice Foundation has established a $25,000 scholarship endowment at the University of Southern Indiana in Evansville to benefit students pursuing a career in end-of-life care and planning.
The “Heart to Heart Hospice Scholarship Endowment” will be awarded to University of Southern Indiana students based upon character, academic ability, and financial need. “We are beyond excited about the opportunity to provide this scholarship,” said Lara Beck, Vice President of Operations for Heart to Heart Hospice. “In a year when many things have been cut back or eliminated altogether, it’s an honor to work for a company that still sees education as a top priority and end-of-life care as an extremely important part of the healthcare continuum,” she said.
“We enjoy working closely with USI students to help them understand the important gift of hospice,” said Jacquelyn Fehd, Executive Director of Heart to Heart Hospice of Southwest Indiana. “The dying process is often overlooked during the healthcare education experience, and we are honored to help teach these students about allowing people to reach the end of their life’s journey with peace, dignity, compassion, hope, and comfort.”
David A. Bower, Vice President for Development and President of USI Foundation, expressed gratitude for the “generosity and investment” of the Heart to Heart Hospice Foundation. “Together, we can continue to innovate in end-of-life care and planning and afford our students the opportunity to become experts and leaders within the field,” he said. “This gift demonstrates the continued good work of the University of Southern Indiana and the positive impact our graduates have in the healthcare industry.”
The Heart to Heart Hospice Foundation endowment is made available through the foundation’s Education and Scholarship program – one of its unique programs designed to reach those in the community by providing greater care, greater education, and a commitment to celebrate life.
“We believe that the greatest impact we have is through the ripple effect of education,” said Kelly Mitchell, CEO and Founder of Heart to Heart Hospice and President of Heart to Heart Hospice Foundation. “By training compassionate caregivers today, we are creating a brighter tomorrow. We are pleased to be a part of the highly respected program at the University of Southern Indiana.”
