Partnering with University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, Heart to Heart Hospice Foundation helps impact the future of nursing and community health.
As part of its commitment to educating healthcare professionals and serving communities, the Heart to Heart Hospice Foundation has made a $25,000 endowment to the nursing program at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton, Texas.
The established “Heart to Heart Hospice Foundation Endowed Nursing Scholarship” will be awarded to University of Mary Hardin-Baylor nursing students based upon character, academic ability, and financial need.
“We are honored to support the excellent and prestigious nursing program at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor,” said Heart to Heart Hospice Senior Vice President of Operations Melissa Broadway, who noted that several members of her family, including her husband, are UMHB alumni.
“It takes a unique set of skills to become a hospice nurse and the Heart to Heart Hospice Foundation is happy to be able to provide this opportunity to deserving nursing students. We look forward to working closely with UMHB in future endeavors, including at our new location in Temple, Texas,” she added.
“We are grateful to the Heart to Heart Hospice Foundation for their generous gift which will provide financial assistance for nursing students for years to come,” said Dr. Rebecca O’Banion, Vice President for Development at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.
“Many of our students feel a strong calling to the nursing profession,” she said. “They feel called not only to care for the physical needs of their patients, but also for their emotional and spiritual needs.
“It is fitting that an organization that cares for patients at their most fragile state of life would invest in future nurses,” she added. “Heart to Heart Hospice Foundation is helping our nursing graduates make a difference in the lives of those they encounter.”
The Heart to Heart Hospice Foundation endowment is made available through the foundation’s Education and Scholarship program – one of its unique programs designed to reach those in the community by providing greater care, greater education, and a commitment to celebrate life.
“We believe that the greatest impact we have is through the ripple effect of education,” said Kelly Mitchell, CEO and Founder of Heart to Heart Hospice and President of Heart to Heart Hospice Foundation. “By training compassionate caregivers today, we are creating a brighter tomorrow. We are pleased to be a part of the highly respected nursing program at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.”
